Editors Letter vs Contents and Editor's Page

Contents page was originally designed with the editors letter at the bottom of the page and the contents at the top of the page based on the coporate design created by "TIME" magazine. After asking the Team I was told that the Editor's letter would come first considering that it would be a first run of the Magazine. (A bit distraught)

Women magazines were used as models to stress the importance of an editor's letter and team discription page. Photo of the editor using a word wrap and photoshop cut out of the editor go in the center of the page, while photos and team descriptions on the right hand side of the Editor's letter. On the left hand side photo's and captions of in the following order: World News - page number, Profile photo - page number, Film Review - page number. Original advertisement was supposed to to be used in a long advert at the bottom of the page, is now to be replace with a banner including the signatures of the magazine's team. Publishing rights in small print probably 3 pt max 4 pt under the signature banner.

Total magazine's font has not been decided. I am choosing to wait until all content is available for a final outlook of the magazine's more professional angel. I am considering Bodini type face as is is easy on the eyes in either bold, italic, and or normal print. (Note: InDesign has Bodini font is 4 different categories. Font will be heavily decided on Professional Texts but at the same time shying away from heavy academic text found in books. A balance between laid back reading and professional.

  1. On the world news front Jack....If we're still going with the idea of a world map marking the top 10 stories. I'm happy to crate the map and number the relevent countries but if you want to do it that's fine. I don't want it to clash with any design or layout features you may have in mind already...so let me know which you'd rather.
Hannah was asking which countries I was looking at. Currently...off the top of my head...if we're looking to cover a months news i.e March:

Northern Ireland - soldires & policeman killings

Pakistan - crickters attacked and protests against government.

Sudan - ICC arrest warrant/aid agency expulsions in Dafur

USA - Obama economic rescue plan/record unemployment

    UK - G20 summit

Guinea-Bissau - President Murdered in revenge attack

Zimbabwe - Prime Minister in car crash wife killed

    Germany - school massacre

    Other possibles:

Ukraine - economic crisis of eastern europe

    Tibet - anniversary

    US - Bernard Madoff

but see what happens for in the next 18days to the end of the month.

I agree need to keep style of slick professional and to avoid route of fashion magazine.
